Airlines Urged To Waive Wheelchair Charge
PETALING JAYA, April 15 (Bernama) -- The Transport Ministry has urged airlines to waive the wheelchair charge during flights.
Minister Datuk Seri Ong Tee Keat said he would be meeting the airlines and associations for the disabled (OKU) to discuss the matter.
"Airlines should be sensitive to the plight of OKU by improving facilities," he told reporters after visiting Sungai Buloh KTM commuter station here on Thursday.
Ong said Keretapi Tanah Melayu Berhad (KTMB) would build 53 portable ramps worth RM106,000 at commuter stations for the benefit of OKU.
Four portable ramps would be at KL Sentral station while 49 others would be placed at other stations.
KTMB is spending RM10 million on building infrastructure for OKU at stations in Bandar Tasik Selatan, Serdang, Shah Alam, Rawang and Sungai Buloh.
