ILTC Malaysia went to a Social Welfare Department (JKM) office Daerah Klang

Last month on 2-10-2019, we disabled group from ILTC Malaysia went to a Social Welfare Department (JKM) office Daerah Klang to help out financial assistance to Mr. Rajappa from Klang to get “Bantuan Am”.

Mr. Rajappa as his application for aid from the Welfare Department (JKM) was finally approved. He filed an application for aid after he had a stroke but it was not approved.
Mr. Rajappa plight was made known to ILTC Malaysia by himself and then who took up his case with JKM.

After screening, his applications by JKM officer will start receiving JKM aid from this month for a year, subject to an annual review.

It is a relief for him. Although RM250 is not a big amount, I am thankful as it will help ease the burden on his daily life. The officer should have made arrangements to go to the house but it wasn't done.

JKM aid is meant to help the poor and underprivileged such as families with disabled children or old folks, senior citizens who live alone and single mothers.

ILTC Malaysia will do its best to assist deserving applicants.

Social Welfare Department (JKM) office Daerah Klang needs regular training sessions for officers to help those in need apply for aid.

We would like to raise question why not efficiency, correctly in work and the delay by JKM staffs while dealing Mr. Rajappa life became harder was applying financial assistance from JKM for more than 1 year.

ILTC Malaysia had organized a study field visit on 7-11-2019 to Putrajaya

Under the MITRA Project, ILTC Malaysia had organized a study field visit on 7-11-2019 to Putrajaya towards 1st Batch (20 disabled person) to check it out the disabled-friendly facilities of buildings and public amenities at Kompleks Kerajaan Parcel D, Persiaran Sultan Sallahuddin Abdul Aziz Shah, Presint 1, 62000 Putrajaya.

As far as accessing public places is concerned, not much has changed since the PWDA or bylaw amendment was passed. Wheelchair user noticed that, there are too many barriers in the built environment.

MALAYSIA passed the Persons with Disabilities Act (PWDA) in 2008 as part of its obligations under the Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities (UN Convention).

Malaysia also amended the Uniform Building Bylaws in 1990, making it compulsory for buildings to provide access and facilities for disabled persons. Existing buildings were given three years to make modifications to comply with the bylaw.
