Liu: Difficult to keep NGO quota pledge
PETALING JAYA: State exco member Ronnie Liu has admitted that 61 so-called independent councillors in Selangor are actually members of Pakatan Rakyat parties. He said it was difficult for Pakatan to honour its promise of having a 25% quota for non-governmental organisation representatives and professionals without political affiliations.
“It is very difficult for these representatives and professionals to be appointed to the council. However, we still have 25% representatives from NGOs and professionals.
“We cannot stop NGO members or professional town planners from joining political parties as it is their right. We also cannot stop politicians from being members in NGOs.
“For example, Pasir Mas MP Datuk Ibrahim Ali is a politician, who is also the chairman of a Malay rights group and NGO, Perkasa. So, what’s the fuss?” he said
